Alcan Packaging, part of Rio Tinto Alcan, officially inaugurated its newest flexible packaging plant in Haridwar, northern India. The ceremony was led by Ilene Gordon, president and chief executive officer, Alcan Packaging. The $10 million investment expands Alcan’s presence in emerging markets overall, which according to Gordon, represents approximately 20% of the company’s sales. The new site employs 48 people and is dedicated to producing high-value flexible packaging for the food and personal care segments in India, including sachets for shampoo and creams. According to the company, while sachets are often used for promotional sampling in Western countries, in India, they often correspond to unit doses and affordable packaging.
